Meeting your true love on myspace?
[Rai's mom] asked:
well a friend of mine zach met this girl online. fell in love with her…and after 3 weeks proposed marriage to her. they had everything set up and ready to go. he took a greyhound bus 36 hours to meet her and she never showed up. he was devistated. but anywho now he met some other girl on myspace and is planning to go meet her shortly. i just want to know have we become so desperate we use myspace now to find someone? we cant use online dating services to find compatibility and someone who doesnt live on the other side of the world. we use myspace? have we become so desperate in our society today for what we call love? and it really isnt. it’s just attention.

I met my boyfriend on Myspace three years ago while we were both serving in different areas in Iraq. We talked online everyday for a couple hours and got to know each other through series of personal questions, and whatnot. He was in the British Army and I was an American Soldier.
We separated for a while when I left Iraq due to the fact that we weren’t ready to give up our lives and move half way around the world so soon after we had just returned from war.
He then took a holiday to the USA last year and we met up for the first time in person in my hometown. We instantly clicked and have been happily together (again) ever since.
So, yes. For all you haters,,,It is possible to find true love online. It has nothing to do with a need for attention, it has to do with finding someone who can be open and honest with you. Finding someone who presents themselves to be exactly who they are. Finding your soul mate.
I could care less what people think of how me and my boyfriend met, because the only thing that matters to me is that we care about each other. We made what seemed like one of the most difficult things a person could go through more bearable by nothing more than simple conversations and mutual feelings. We go to show that love doesn’t come in neat, little, conventional, and comfortable packages… it’s unexpected and random, but it’s so beautiful for that reason.
Sometimes it takes reading between the lines to truly get the deeper messages in life. Happiness is not solely black and white… you have to be willing to take a stroll in the gray sometimes.
On that note…
I’m not saying that online dating isn’t risky. I would advise doing a lot of homework before even considering meeting a person you met online, and if possible take a friend with you, or have them meet you out in a social setting like an amusement park or sporting event. I would avoid bars or movies. Anything dark or involving drinking until you feel as if the person is trustworthy.
Anyway, I wish your friend good luck with whatever he decides to do. My advice would be to take things slow. Maybe his last girlfriend was just freaked out by how fast things were moving.
