What are the requirements for obtaining Italian citizenship by marriage?
Saffa asked:
My South African greatgrandfather married a woman (my greatgrandmother) whose parents emigrated from Italy before she was born. On account of said marriage would he have been eligible for Italian citizenship? Is it possible for me to claim Italian citizenship in any way according to Jus Sanguinus (the right to Italian Citizenship by virtue of having an Italian ascendant) ? I am the son of a son of the son of the man who married this Italian connection. Is it true that the 1948 law is being amended to include children born of Italian mothers before 1948? If so, what is the current status and how long before one can expect any changes?

As I understand it, you can only claim Italian citizenship if you have a grandparent who was born in Italy. However, the best thing to do is to check with your nearest Italian embassy.

1. you have to be a descendant from that woman. She had to be your great grand mother.
2. Italian mothers also give Italian citizenship to theirs children, but only to children born after 1-1-1948 .
I answered to a similar questions some days ago.
The amendment to citizenship bill was approved by a House Committee. But the bill overall has yet to be passed.
It’s not yet a law in force.
Nevertheless some judges granted citizenship also to children born of Italian mothers before 1948. But you will have to sue.

Oops sorry, you are the same person who asked the previous question.
My advice is to get upadated informations in an Italian Embassy or an Italian “Consolato” (a diplomatic delegation) in your Country
