Children lose out. They won't develop a good bond with their mother and will not know how to co-exist with men. Stats have shown that children without a father have an increase in behavior disorders.

Marriage is a state of equality. The propaganda of oppression in marriage was the result of over hyping the feelings upper class women in the 1960's. With these results they were able to spew their atheistic and Marxists beliefs.

If one gender is the keyholder, the marriage is based on commitment to the form or appearance of the marriage instead of to the true purpose of the marriage. The true purpose is integral and intuitive rather than dependent upon social convention.]

Houston...we have a problem if either person focuses upon what they want to get instead of what they need to give.

There are many cultures where women have had the choice to have children out of wedlock. In nearly every one of those cultures, marriage has thrived. There's a reason for this. Women, in general, are the ones empowered by the marriage. Especially in marriages that involve kids.

In a successful marriage, both are the ultimate keyholders. If they both weren't, they wouldn't be married. (I'm not saying both are equal necessarily. But both are getting what they want)

It's not quite that easily simplified, I don't think. I think monogamist lifestyles are favored under some conditions, and polygamist or promiscuous lifestyles are favored under other conditions, and it's not really possible to tease out what conditions exactly. What you're talking about would fall into the category "promiscuous lifestyle" (but forgive the loaded terminology - no value judgment is intended).

I don't think there's any keyholder to marriage, basically. There is a vast number of non-quantifiable influences working together in complicated ways to motivate what we think we want, and only some of it could be said to have to do with "power" -- what is power, exactly? For an individual, it depends on values and beliefs about what is desirable or rewarding, which are conditioned socially.

I don't find your categories of men's power and women's power to be particularly valid. I think people of both sexes lose and gain interpersonal power with the loss or gain of marriage as an institution, and how much depends on more factors than could be worthwhile to try to untangle.

not really. the institution of marriage isn't for everyone. i'm just as content being single. don't have to worry about this or that...there's no drama, no fights.

if a woman wants to have a child out of wedlock and remain single, that's fine with me. just one question, are the women going to expect men to pay child support, after this liberating experience? if not the father then who...the taxpayer?

What ever happened to equality?

What happened to "it takes TWO"?

What if a man impregnates a woman who wants to get an abortion, and instead of letting her do that, takes full custody of the child and raises it alone, out of wedlock? Is he a pansy? Is he an effeminate male? Do women lose the power that they're trying desperately to take from the man (assuming the man had the power in the first place, since that's what YOU'RE implying also)?

Women may seem to have the upper hand in the situation but trying to have control is useless to the matter.

The one who losses but not knows is the real loser.

traditional marriage is only a relatively recent phenomena that is changing, our tribal ancestors only survived because men mated with anything that moved, ensuring the survival of our species.
our ability to harvest sperm and "bank it" does give women a definite superiority.
they say that behind every good man there is a good woman.-blurey

Strictly depends upon the definition of power. If we have learned anything from history, it is the term power and the confusion thereof that has caused more problems than anything else save the institution of marriage. It also depends upon how the accepted forms of Monogamy and polygamy will fair in the next few years. To date the concept of marriage as an institution is in flux, socially and politically with the new "same sex" marriage laws and what is and is not socially acceptable within the purview of the definition of marriage. I predict that whether a person is male or female with respect to the "institution" of marriage as it is related to "power" will undergo a VAST TRANSFORMATION in the next six months. The United States today probably sets one of the most conservative and bigoted positions with respect to marriage, men and the power. It is with the men and the "old boys club" that has created this awkward paradigm. There is a retinue of advocates, who by and large want to chage the way of things and the position of the pendulum--where it swings and where power holds sway. I'd say that we're in for some HUGE changes in the next year. Mark it.
